This is my final 3D Design project. It is what is known as an "Assemblage Shire"(which, oddly enough, isn't a DA catagory...). That means it is as box with crap tossed inside constructed out of found objects, that may be modified or taken out of context, that form a theme. Fitting in with my body of Nintendo work, I made a giant Game Boy.
Bit of a story behind this one. This is the second project we had to work on while doing the hellish fiber glass heads, so I had to whip this one out in under 3 days since the head took up so much damn time. My uncle helped me by cutting up boads and the speaker it's made out of and by drilling the hinges on(he's quite the carpeter, and I shouldn't be allowed to use power tools, so his assistance was very much appreciated). I then painted the thing, glued in some print outs of stuff, some card board buttons, felt game pak, card board battery door, green transparency for the screen, stuck some flashlights in there(yes I know the original GB wasn't back lit, but it would be too dark in there closed, plus it just looks neat), and finally arranged some of my Pokemon figurines I had lying around into a battle(top, from a screenshot I found online) and in some jazz on the bottom.
Fun story behind this one. On the day it was due, when Jim was evaluating them, he got to mine and didn't care for it. He said it was "tacky" and that it's meaning wasn't subtle and screamed out too much. However, the class loved it! They cheered and applauded me, which I couldn't believe, got the message completely(they all had Game Boys, and most of them had played the original "Pokemon" and those who hadn't were very familiar with it) and booed and argued with Jim, forcing him to change his opinion about it! He then admitted it "just isn't a sub-culture [he's] not familiar with" and conceeded it was not as bad as he first said. I was sooo happy and everyone kept saying how cool it was! Plus, John, the stuck up guy, made a piece of crap, and Jim let him know it, and everyone agreed, and he made an ass of himself trying to defend it. So, it was a good day.
This shot is of the exterior of the shrine. Front view(left) back and left side(middle, top) right side and back(middle, bottom) and front view lit up in the dark(right). Sorry about the glare on the screen, I can't figure out how to turn the damn flash off on my camera.
I'm not patranizing it or anything. I'm just saying we should get to make diarama's like that in elementry school. ...do you remember when like all public schools banned pokemon?
